title. Palmer Square Amphitheater

neighborhood. Logan Square

city. Chicago

We want to create a public space where people can interact and express themselves within our community. A small amphitheater in Palmer Square Park could showcase Chicago’s impromptu talents, provide space for small shows or skits, community gatherings or meeting,

or simply provide seating for those who just want to enjoy the view and talk about life.

This Amphitheater was co-designed by students at Darwin Elementary and James Silvestro of Silvestro Design Operations. The design allows it to be versatile in its usage by performers/presenters able to either stand on the stage looking at the elevated seating on the stage for a more intimate environment, or by setting up on the stage looking into the lawn for larger performances.

Its placement within Palmer Square will take advantage of a natural amphitheater of trees to enhance the aesthetic, and the design will incorporate built-in planters and climbing vines to blend it into the greenery of the park.
